About Hemp and AHAA’s Mission

Get clear answers to common questions about hemp, cannabis alternatives, and AHAA’s fight for fair policy. Learn how hemp impacts consumers, businesses, and

AHAA is a national coalition of business owners, scientists, store owners, and consumers working every day in the hemp and healthy alternatives industry. We unite the people who grow, manufacture, sell, and use these products to protect access and promote safe, responsible regulations.

We were founded to give the industry a unified voice. Hemp and healthy alternatives are often targeted by misinformation and unfair laws, and AHAA exists to ensure the people who live and work in this industry every day are represented in Washington D.C. and across the states.

Our members include hemp farmers, extractors, manufacturers, store owners, scientists, wellness advocates, and consumers. We are not outside lobbyists, we are the community itself, fighting for fair treatment and safe access.

We represent alternative products of all types. From hemp cultivation, processing, product manufacturing, retail stores, and consumers who choose natural alternatives such as hemp-derived cannabinoids, as well as other plant-based wellness businesses and products.

We work directly with lawmakers and regulators at the state and federal levels, while also mobilizing grassroots campaigns. Our approach blends real-world expertise from business owners and scientists with the lived experience of consumers.

Although hemp is federally legal, many states are trying to ban hemp-derived products. These bans threaten family farms, small businesses, and consumer access. AHAA was created by industry insiders to fight back with facts and science.

Because our members include both retailers and everyday consumers, we know what responsible use looks like. We support age restrictions, child-safe packaging, and clear labeling - measures that protect minors while ensuring adults have safe access.

We believe in an evidence-based approach to cannabis and hemp and alternative wellness products. Adults should have the right to choose natural alternatives over pharmaceuticals, and federal policy should reflect both the science and the success seen in states where access is already legal.

We are not a distant trade association. AHAA is built by the very people who grow, make, sell, and rely on hemp and other alternative products every day. Our strength comes from being both grassroots-powered and industry-driven.
